Updates on 210 Freeway, Local Graduations and More

In this month’s update on Interstate 210 developments, according to Caltrans, “Beginning Monday, June 12 at 7 p.m. … Caltrans will close westbound Foothill Freeway (I-210) Gould Avenue on-ramp and Angeles Crest Highway off-ramp, as part of a pavement rehabilitation project. The ramp closures will remain in effect through August 2017, are weather permitting and subject to change. Detour signs will be posted. Flatiron West, Inc. is the contractor of this $148.5 million project. Once the project is completed in 2018, the new surface will provide a smoother drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures. quickmap.dot.ca.gov. As always, you are advised to “Be Work Zone Alert.” And please adhere to the 55 mph work zone speed limit, or you could be cited for speeding and the fine doubled.

In education-related news, on behalf of the entire CV Town Council, I wish to offer our sincerest and collective congratulations to each of the Crescenta Valley High School Class of 2017 seniors who successfully completed their secondary education coursework becoming eligible to receive their high school graduation diplomas. We congratulate each of our graduates on this momentous accomplishment and wish each of them continued success on all of their future endeavors.

In community-related news, CVTC Councilmember Kyle Studebaker and I represented the CVTC by attending the 2017 Memorial Day observance ceremony at Two Strike Park on Monday, May 29. This proved to be, as always, a moving and poignant event that served to honor the lives and memories of all our fallen and missing soldiers who valiantly served and gave their precious lives in preservation our nation’s freedoms and liberties. We extend our deepest respect and appreciation to our fallen servicemen and their families and also wish to extend our special appreciation to the American Legion and the VFW, which sponsored the ceremony.

Councilmember Studebaker and I also had the honor of representing the CVTC at the CV Sheriff’s Dept. Annual Banquet on May 17.

In other welcome transportation-related news, it seems that there is finally a resolution on the horizon, according to the LA Times, relating to the longstanding tumult over the proposed and controversial 710 Freeway tunnel.

“The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board voted unanimously to withdraw its support and funding for a five-mile, $3.2-billion tunnel through El Sereno, South Pasadena and Pasadena connecting the 710 and 210 freeways,” dropping its support for the project on Thursday, May 25 thereby effectively killing the project. “Instead, the board voted to spend $700 million on a range of transportation fixes to ease congestion and other problems arising from traffic spilling onto the streets of Alhambra at the 710’s abrupt northern terminus.”

The council next meets on Thursday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room, 2809 Foothill Blvd. All are welcome to attend.
