Summer Fun
Summer is here and there are all kinds of fun to be had here in the Crescenta Valley.
The Beach Bus is back in operation. Thanks to LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Michael Davitt, mayor of La Cañada Flintridge, the low-priced bus rides ($3/$1.50) carry children, adults, persons with disabilities and senior citizens from three La Crescenta locations to Santa Monica beach every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Sept. 4. The bus leaves around 9:30 a.m. and drops beachgoers back off around 4:30 p.m. for a day of fun and sun on the Westside. For more information visit www.LAGoBus.com.
The La Crescenta Library has programs all summer long. Come for Storytime Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. (for 2-5 year olds) and stay for the fun afternoon programs (for kids ages 3-12) including a balloon art show and marionette fun. On Saturday afternoons, it offers intriguing programs for adults like smart gardening and DIY Boho lanterns. Tuesdays are for teens with things like the Ozobot Challenge and STEM Madness. Learn more by calling the library at (818) 248-5313.
Fireworks! Who doesn’t love ’em? As usual, the CV Fireworks Association puts on its annual Star Spangled 4th of July Fireworks Celebration on Tuesday the 4th at Crescenta Valley High School. Gates open at 4 p.m. and fireworks begin when darkness falls. There’s limited bleacher seating so bring a blanket and lie out on the grassy field. Tickets are $7 pre-sale through July 3 and can be purchased here at the Chamber. Children 7 and under and active military are free.
Maybe cleaning out the garage is your idea of summer fun. If you want to free up some space, donate that old stair stepper or mini-fridge or bike or radio or tent or whatever to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station for its big annual rummage sale. The sale is in September but station members are collecting donations now. And they’re happy to pick up the big stuff! Call Sgt. Cynthia Gonzales at (818) 236-4019.
If you come across your trusty golf clubs while cleaning out the garage, dust them off and sign up to play the Crescenta Valley Chamber Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, June 30 at Scholl Canyon. Everyone has a great time at this annual event, which benefits local students and The Desi Geestman Foundation, helping children with cancer. You don’t have to be a pro. You don’t even need to have a foursome of players. We’ll be happy to put you on a team. The cost is only $110, less than many other tournaments, and includes an amazing steak and salmon lunch. As of publication date, we have 16 slots open but it’s only a week away so hurry! Call the office for more info at (818) 247-4957.
Let us know of your organization’s summertime activities so we can let others know. And sign up for our bi-weekly eBlasts by emailing Lisa at info@crescentavalleychamber.org.
Have a fun-filled, safe summer! Call the Chamber with all your Crescenta Valley-related questions.
