Members of the Montrose Search and Rescue team responded to a call at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday night concerning a missing motorcyclist in the Angeles National Forest.
“Two motorists were on the Angeles National Forest Highway when they became separated,” said Lt. Mark Slater.
One of the motorcyclists realized the other was not behind him and thought he might have taken another path home. The motorcyclist traveled back to his home in Brea, about 40 miles away. When he realized the other motorcyclist had not made it home he contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept.
He did not have a lot of precise information about where his riding partner may have traveled.
Slater added the MSAR team searched but due to the limited information on the route taken and the setting sun they called off the search to resume another day.
“One of our search and rescue members decided to go out and drive around to see if he could find the motorcyclist,” Slater said. “He found a motorcycle and [rider] at 1:45 a.m. (Wednesday).”
The rider was deceased.
The victim was identified by Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as Gary Hackman, 61, of Yorba Linda.
Sheriffs confirmed he was the victim they were searching for earlier.
