FIBROMYALGIA/ARTHRITIS SUPPORT GROUP
A community support group for persons with fibromyalgia and/or arthritis meets monthly at La Cañada Presbyterian Church for personal and social support, and education in lifestyle management of these difficult medical issues.
The support group is led by Dianne Whiting, MA, PT and Katie Phillips-Rector, MS, MFT intern.

ATTENTION MUSIC LOVERS
Dr. Ted Stern, a professor of music, is conducting music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for musicians and non-musicians alike and explores the histories of composers and their music. This new series of classes will cover the topic “A New Appreciation of Music – Surprises from the Internet (beginning in 1850 with Brahms and his contemporaries).”
The classes will be held each Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. through Aug. 1 at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church cultural hall, 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose. The cost for the 10-week series of classes is $90.

‘ONLY THE OAKS REMAIN’
Bolton Hall Museum/Little Landers Historical Society in Tujunga will host the “Only the Oaks Remain” exhibit through Aug. 6. “Only the Oaks Remain” is a museum-quality traveling exhibit that tells the story of the WWII internment of Japanese, Italian and German immigrants at the Tuna Canyon Detention Station in Tujunga. The exhibit was created by the Tuna Canyon Detention Station Coalition and is being displayed at a number of Southern California locations this year.
Bolton Hall Museum is open to the public for museum visits on Tuesday and Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Extended hours for this exhibit are on Thursday evenings through Aug. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

BINGO FUN HOSTED BY VETS
On Friday, Aug. 18 in Healy Hall at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2361 Del Mar Road in Montrose, the American Legion Post 288 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1614 will host the Sixth Annual Community Bingo Night starting at 5:30 p.m. with proceeds to benefit veterans’ programs in the local community.
Admission is $15 per person, which includes four bingo cards for 10 games. The prize for each bingo game will be a minimum of $100. In addition to the bingo, there will be food for purchase, a raffle and other surprises. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first game at 7 p.m.
The bingo game is limited to 250 players. Tickets are available from American Legion Post 288 members. Tickets are also available at the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce office, 3131 Foothill Blvd., Unit D, in La Crescenta from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
GOLF TOURNAMENT SUPPORTS CV SHERIFF SUPPORT GROUP
The Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group presents the 2017 Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group Golf Classic on Aug. 21. This year’s event will be played at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The cost to participate is $225, which includes green fees, cart, lunch, dinner, awards, tee prizes and more. Tee and green sponsorships are available for $150.
The Sheriff Support Group is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteer members of the community and the money raised is used to support the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and its deputies. The funds raised help purchase specialized equipment and other programs necessary to operations at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

McGroarty Arts Center is hosting a Burgers, Beer and Band Night on Aug. 26 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at its historic location in Tujunga.

Those who love to sing should join the Towne Singers. The Towne Singers is a non-audition choir. Male voices are especially needed, but all are welcome to join this family of musicians. MASTERS ON MUSIQUES ROSTER

LOCAL YOGA CLASS

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
