CHAMBER ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS
The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the annual Recognition Banquet that will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28. Nominations may be made by individuals or organizations. Categories include man of the year, woman of the year, business of the year and volunteer of the year.

DUI CAMPAIGN CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND
The Glendale Police Department will be conducting DUI/Drivers License checkpoints on Friday, Sept. 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and Saturday, Sept. 4, from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The department is continuing its efforts at lowering the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes locally and through the County’s Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign with this DUI/Drivers License checkpoint. Personnel will be checking drivers to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as heightening awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.
A major component of the checkpoints, beyond taking dangerous drivers off the road, is to increase awareness of the consequences of impaired driving and to encourage using sober designated drivers. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, the Glendale Police Department believes motorists are deterred from drinking and driving.

COALITION, POLICE HOSTING MEETING
The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition and the Glendale Police Department are hosting a Town Hall Meeting for the North Area (Glendale/Montrose/La Crescenta) on Sept. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Verdugo Hills Hospital Council Rooms on the fourth floor/lobby, 1812 Verdugo Blvd., Glendale.
Chief Ron DePompa of the Glendale Police Department will touch on marijuana and its impact upon the community including information on Proposition 19. There will also be a presentation on pain medication that is readily available in almost every home; a presentation and display of drug paraphernalia, which drugs are used with certain paraphernalia, which drugs are the most prevalent, and signs and symptoms of drug use and an update of the activities planned by the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition.

MOVIES SLATED FOR
DEUKMEJIAN
The City of Glendale Community Services & Parks Department and The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley will host a fall movie series at Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road, during the month of September. Family friendly movies will be shown on the large grass area near the picnic tables beginning at dusk. Seating is on the lawn, beach chairs or blankets are suggested.
The following is the schedule of movies to be shown: On Saturday, Sept. 11, “Where The Wild Things Are”; On Saturday, Sept. 18, “Star Trek”; On Saturday, Sept. 25 “E.T.”
