A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s sergeant has been arrested pursuant to a LASD internal criminal investigation and subsequent criminal filing by the LA City Attorney’s Office, according to a statement from LASD.
The City Attorney’s Office confirmed it has filed four misdemeanor charges against Michael Spina, a LASD sergeant, on July 28. The complaint was made earlier leading to the investigation. Spina was placed on administrative leave on Aug. 15, 2016.
“The misdemeanor charges pertain to alleged work-related criminal misconduct involving subordinate female employees,” according to the LASD statement.
Spina, 37, had served at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station in the past as a deputy. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility where he was working when the alleged incidents occurred.
According to the charges, the sergeant repeatedly touched and exposed himself to a female deputy who worked at the facility in July 2016.
According to reports, the alleged sexual favors were payment for giving the victim a day off from work.
According to the arrest record, Spina was arrested on Aug. 9 and has been released on a $20,000 bail. His next court appearance will be on Sept. 27.
