St. George’s Offers Ethics Series
St. George’s Episcopal Church in La Cañada will be offering a six-week course created for the wider community entitled, “Ethics: The Final Frontier.”
The six-week mission is to watch six different “Star Trek” episodes to explore, discern and name ethical problems, and to discuss how these issues related to our lives in the 21st century. The goal of the class is to boldly go where no evening program has gone before!
The class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the church’s newly renovated and rebranded church hall named The Nourishing Spirits Center. The group will end its ethical voyage on Nov. 14.
To cover the cost of refreshments, a $5 donation is requested at the door or a $20 donation for the entire series.

Movie Fun at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church
Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church host free Friday night movies! Popcorn, soda and hot dogs will be available for sale.
Sunday’s sermons will relate back to each night’s film.
“Hacksaw Ridge” will be shown on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Rated R. A separate film/activity will be offered to children.

‘Women of the Bible’ Presented at La Crescenta Presbyterian
The community is invited to learn about the extraordinary “Women of the Bible” at a new class on Wednesday evenings at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church.The class is part of the church’s free midweek program for adults and children. Other classes for adults include: “More Like Jesus: Conversations on Core Issues of Faith” and “Creative Bible Journaling,” a fun group that creates art pieces inspired by faith. Special programs are available for children from infants through eighth grade. And two choirs that rehearse on Wednesdays welcome new participants.
The PEAK (Praise and Education for Adults and Kids) programs, which run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Wednesday, are free. Come early and feed the family! A nutritious, delicious and affordable meal ($3 for adults and $2 for kids) is served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

All Welcome to Chili Cook-Off
Light on the Corner Church is holding its 13th annual chili cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. The cook-off features many different chili entries from the community and local firemen will be here to pick their favorites. The Firemen’s Choice winners will receive a trophy as well as a cash prize of $100 for first place. All the people who attend also have an opportunity to judge the chili, and the People’s Choice winners receive trophies. Finally, there is a trophy for the “hottest non-lethal chili!”
Entertainment provided by the church band featuring Michael Hughes, Mark Carter, Gabe Davis and Craig Bunch. They will be playing a variety of music all evening. Come join this fun and tasty event! Anyone who would like to enter their chili into the contest should visit the church website at www.lightonthecorner.org for information.

Getting Ready for Empty Bowls
The 10th Annual Empty Bowls event is on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at CV United Methodist Church. For a $20 donation, local chefs will donate delicious soup to fill a ceramic bowl of the diner’s choice. Guests can come and choose their favorite bowl, fill it with soup and enjoy the music and good company with friends and neighbors. The $20 donation will go towards feeding the hungry in Tujunga and Pasadena. The empty bowl then can be taken home as a reminder that there are people in the world who do not have enough to eat.

This Week at LCIF
Everyone is invited to join Lutheran Church in the Foothills at its 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Oct. 1 to begin a special series of sermons and activities in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Pastor Scott Peterson will preach a sermon entitled “The Word Did Everything.”
Coffee and donuts will be in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
Trunk or Treat will be on Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be decorated trunks and treats, special guests and activities. It’s free and everyone is invited!
