Mt. wilson fire continues
The fire burning near Mt. Wilson Observatory in the Angeles National Forest has burned 50 acres and is 35% contained
as of Wednesday night. The fire began at about 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mt. Wilson Observatory remains closed. There are no structures threatened nor are the many communication towers that line the Mt. Wilson ridge, said Nathan Judy, U.S. Forest spokesman.
There were hikers in the area that were evacuated and all hiking trails leading to Mt. Wilson will remain closed through the weekend, Judy said. In addition, Eaton Canyon and Santa Anita Canyon have been closed. Firefighters estimate full containment of the fire by today; however the trails will remain closed and fire personnel will continue to patrol the area through Oct. 21.
