Construction Angst Continues to Plague Drivers

The Foothill (210) Freeway construction continues and, beginning Nov. 13, another much-used exit will be affected.

According to Caltrans, the Ocean View Boulevard on-ramp to the eastbound 210 will be closed from 30 days – best case scenario – to 45 days – worst case scenario.

“We will be paving the roads across the ramp,” said Timothy Weisberg, Caltrans spokesman. “That is the only upcoming long-term closing.”

The Ocean View Boulevard on-ramp is between the Angeles Crest and La Crescenta Avenue on-ramps for those wanting to travel eastbound toward Pasadena.

Safety concerns regarding the entrance onto the eastbound 210 from La Crescenta Avenue have been brought before the Crescenta Valley Town Council and have been a topic on social media. Most who have commented are concerned about the time and distance needed between entering the freeway off La Crescenta Avenue and traveling across three lanes to get to the 210 eastbound toward Pasadena. The first three lanes lead to the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway. With, or even without, rush hour traffic, the dash to the left lanes can be difficult.

Weisberg said Caltrans was aware of that issue and would be looking into it.

“That [lane change] may change,” he said.

Construction along the 210 in the area is still on track to end in early summer, he said.
