SAT seminars offered
The Assistance League® of Glendale is offering SAT seminars to prepare students for the SAT. “How to take the SAT” and “What to expect” will be discussed. Practice tests will be given. There will be eight classes (four math and four English).
The Monday and Wednesday classes take place Oct. 4 through Oct. 27 and the Tuesday and Thursday classes take place Oct. 5 through Oct. 28.
The seminars will be held at the Assistance League® of Glendale, 314 E Harvard St. in Glendale.
The cost is $45 that covers eight meetings, two hours each, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., the book, Kaplan SAT and refreshments during class break.

Support groups for parents, teens
GUSD and the Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition (CVDAPC) are sponsoring confidential support groups for all parents of Rosemont Middle School and CV and Clark high school students during the entire school year. Join Pam Erdman for presentations and interactive discussions on parenting teens. These one-hour meetings are every Tuesday evening (except during school holidays). Sessions will be held at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA (with a few exceptions to be held the CV High School auditorium) at 1930 Foothill Blvd in La Cañada. Please encourage fellow parents to attend as well.

Some teens talk a lot about their life and experiences, but many stop talking when they hit adolescence. We worry when they are silent, because we don’t know what is happening in their lives. We will explore ways to help our children to be more honest and communicative.

Youth & Government return to local Ys
Weekly meetings of the Crescenta Cañada Y’s Youth & Government will start on Wednesday, Sept. 22 and run through February.
The Verdugo Hills Family YMCA will be having a new member and parent information night on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the Verdugo Hills branch.
Youth & Government provides students with practical experience in the study of state government. Participants study issues, draft legislation, and learn how to present their legislation in a committee, and debate it on the floor of the House or Senate. Youth & Government also includes a judicial program and special programs for pages, print and video journalists, legislative lobbyists and legislative analysts.
The highlight of the program is a trip to Sacramento in February where the students will preside over all aspects of the state government and have access to: the entire Capitol and Supreme Court Chambers including the Senate and Assembly floors, all governmental offices and the Governor’s personal suite, and all advocate and trial court chambers.

JR. High EFEX (Everything Fun, Everything “X”treme) & Y Dances
EFEX is back for another year on Tuesday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA. Seventh and eighth grade students can participate in scavenger hunts, adventures around town, games with staff, and talk about issues that Jr. High students face today. This program is free to facility and Program Jr. High members. The BBQ Kick-Off event is on Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.
Jr. High Y Dances are for seventh and eighth grade students only. Admission is $5 and everyone must have a student I.D. Dances are once a month and the first dance is on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 7:30-10:00 p.m.
