Boy Scout Troop 288 was busy Saturday sorting food for those in need during its annual Scouting for Food event.

The American Legion Post 288, sponsor of the Boy Scout troop, was the drop-off location for hundreds of canned goods and non-perishable items that will be distributed to residents in the local area.

The location received donations from Eagle Rock, La Crescenta and Tujunga.

Kyle Ikeda, who is in his third year of college and a former Post 288 Boy Scout, came back to help organize the food bags.

“We have everyone, from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and Venture Crew (older Boy Scouts) helping out,” said Dan Kilgore, committee chair for the troop’s event.

The Boy Scouts received help from local businesses, including Andy’s Transfer that donated the boxes to transport the food, and Trader Joe’s that donated bags.

The food will go to food banks, including Sue’s Garden and Our Lady of Lourdes, Kilgore said.
