Y Takes Part in National Drug Take Back Day

The YMCA of the Foothills announced that its involvement with national Drug Take Back Day, part of the National Drug Enforcement Administration event, was a success. Its three Y facilities collected a total of 245 pounds of unused or expired prescription medication in partnership with the DEA, LAPD, Crescenta Valley Sheriffs and Glendale Police Dept.

The majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused these controlled prescription drugs.

To support its commitment to social responsibility, the YMCA partnered with the DEA to act as a drop off site for expired and unused prescription medication. This is the Y’s second year in this partnership.
