Christmas Parade
The Montrose Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, Dec. 2. The 2200-2700 blocks of Honolulu Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 3 p.m.; the parade begins at 6:15 p.m.
The parade grand marshal is Ken Landreaux, a member of the 1981 world championship Dodgers team.
Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon
An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, Dec. 3. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the early morning light.
The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Friedman Hosting Open House & Holiday Party
Assemblymember Laura Friedman (43rd District) is hosting an open house and holiday party on Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the local district office. All are welcome to attend.

Hot Cocoa and More
The Crescenta Valley Armenian American Community Center will be selling hot chocolate, coffee and tea during the Montrose Christmas Parade as part of a fundraiser benefitting the Fire House.
The cost is $2 per cup.

Bird is the Word
On Saturday, Dec. 2 at 8 a.m. it’s the annual “Bird Walk on the Riverwalk” at the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk at the corner of Paula Avenue and Garden Street at 8 a.m.
All are invited for a stroll along the banks of the LA River to look for great blue herons, Snowy egrets, Black-necked stilts, and many of the more than 300 species of birds that call the LA River home. Bring binoculars and/or a camera with a telephoto lens!
A liability waiver (available on the city website) must be filled out by each participant. Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian fill out the parent/guardian section.

Glendale Community College Events
Glendale Community College is having its holiday ceramics sale on Saturday, Dec. 2 in the Student Center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Decorative and functional pieces are made by students in stoneware, porcelain, earthenware, majolica and raku. A concert directed by Tobin Sparfeld and Anita Protich and including the college choir, chamber singers and opera workshop concert takes place on Dec. 2 in the Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 general and $7 for students and seniors. Call (818) 240-1000 for information.
On Sunday, Dec. 3, it’s the Glendale College Community Orchestra concert, conducted by Beth Pflueger in the Auditorium at 3 p.m. Admission is $10 general and $7 for students and seniors. Program features works by Mussorgsky, Bernstein, Donizetti and Chabrier.
