Moss Supermarket Closed But SPUDDS Still Going Strong

By Mary O’KEEFE

The sign on the door of Moss Supermarket at 2931 Honolulu Ave. reads “Notice of Eviction.” According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept., the notice to vacate that had been ordered by the court was presented on Oct. 31. It appears the store’s phone has been shut off as well. Moss Supermarket moved into the location in 2015.

For 16 years, prior to becoming Moss, it had been Cordon’s Ranch Market. After it was purchased by the Moss owners, some renovations were made that included adding a restaurant that was located at the far northwest end of the building.  Recently that location had been occupied by SPUDDS restaurant.

The owners and operators of SPUDDS are Crescenta Valley High School alumni.

“We were subleasing the [location],” said Jessica Kalfayan, who with her brother Shant, owns the restaurant that leased the site. Unfortunately they got caught up in the issues between the owners of Moss and their landlord.

“We had to relocate,” she said.

The family has two restaurants; the original one is in Pasadena and is still operating at 1802 E. Washington Blvd. Kalfayan said the family is looking for to reopen their second restaurant in the Crescenta Valley area and are presently looking for a location.

In the meantime, they hope customers will travel to their Pasadena restaurant. Their hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. For more information visit www.spudds.com or call (626) 486-2800.
