‘A Long Week,’ Says Fire Chief

As of 4 p.m. this evening, Friday, all Creek Fire evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted except for Limekiln Canyon, which remains closed. The Shadow Hills area north of Sunland Boulevard, Ebey Canyon and Doane Canyon are open to residents only.

Containment levels remain at 10%. It is hoped that it will rise to 15% tonight. There are still three helicopters working the area. The wind event is expected to continue through Saturday.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant despite the lifting of the evacuation orders and warnings.

“Just because you don’t see smoke doesn’t mean you’re not in danger,” said City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Sheriff Jim McDonnell said that resources will be out to help people get back home after evacuations, but added, ”Please be patient.”

Representatives from So Cal Edison and So Cal Gas will be in the area. The public should call the appropriate agency if a problem is seen; for example, if downed power lines are seen, call the sheriff’s station or So Cal Edison.

“Everyone needs to remain vigilant,” said LAcoFD Chief Daryl Osby. He reminded the pubic that 90% of wildfires are started by humans.

Tomorrow’s expected temperature is 79 degrees with 6% humidity, winds at 18 mph and the brush index is at 229, which is lower than it was today but still at an extreme rate.

Ralph M. Terrazas, fire chief for the City of Los Angeles, said, “It’s been a long week and we’ re not done yet.”
