The Bailey Center honored 28 of its volunteers at a Volunteerism Appreciation Luncheon in November in the Parish Hall of the Tujunga United Methodist Church.
The Bailey Center serves about 650 individuals a month with at least a four-day supply of groceries. This is made possible by the many volunteers who arrive every Wednesday and Friday to sort fruit, vegetables, bread and meat that are donated by Vons and Trader Joe’s.
The Bailey Center was started in 1981 with a box of canned goods under the secretary’s desk. The center now uses four storage closets and the stage area to keep the sorted products. A clothes closet is also open every Friday for those needing clothing.
To help with the hunger and clothing issues in the Crescenta-Cañada Valley, the Bailey Center is serving every Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The center is also open on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon. It is sponsored by the Shadow Hill Presbyterian Church.
