There are two SMART DriverTek workshops scheduled this month in La Crescenta.
The first one is Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, Post 288, 4011 La Crescenta Ave. The second one is Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Bob Smith Toyota, 3333 Foothill Blvd.

Work Planned by SCE
Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in the area. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily turn off power. This outage will allow the modernization of the grid by making needed upgrades and repairs to increase reliability. Power outages may cause some inconvenience and therefore attempts are made for outages to be isolated down to the smallest area possible and the work completed safely and quickly.
The work will start on Jan. 17 at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Six residential customers will be affected, one commercial customer will be affected and one traffic control meter will be affected. The outage boundary is Salisbury Court, east side, west of Angeles Crest Highway.
The next outage on Jan. 18 is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Six residential customers will be affected and one commercial customer will be affected. No traffic control meters will be affected. The outage boundary is San Gorgonio Road, east of Ocean View Boulevard.
Also scheduled for Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., four residential customers will be affected and no commercial customers or traffic control meters will be affected for work scheduled for Snover Canyon Channel east of Escalante.
Note that the power may be off for the whole period or may be turned off more than once. This planned outage may not begin exactly at the stated start time, and some conditions may cause this planned outage to be postponed. The times noted are SCE’s best estimate and circumstances may affect both the start time and the completion time indicated above.

New Year Brings New Leadership Opportunities for Friedman
California Assemblymember Laura Friedman was recently appointed to two key leadership positions. Friedman was named the assistant speaker pro tempore of the Assembly by Speaker Anthony Rendon. She was also tapped as the chair of the Joint Committee on Harassment Prevention and Response, a joint effort between the state Assembly and the Senate tasked with creating bicameral reforms addressing how the legislature responds to incidents of harassment and retaliation in the Capitol.
The formation of the Joint Committee was announced by Assembly Speaker Rendon and Senate Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon as the legislature reconvened on Jan. 3. The committee is expected to hold its first meeting within the next few weeks.
Central Park Campus Design Meetings Scheduled
Two meetings are planned to discuss the Central Park Plan. The Central Park Plan turns the largest remaining green space in Downtown Glendale into a focal core. Prior to preparing preliminary conceptual plans, two outreach workshops will be held to involve the residents, businesses, and other stakeholders from the Glendale community. The workshops will seek to obtain public input in addressing existing needs and potential opportunities in the development of preliminary concept plans for this urban open space.
The two upcoming community meetings will begin with an informational presentation followed by workshops and discussions.
The first meeting is on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Adult Recreation Center, 201 E. Colorado St. The second is on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St., second floor.
Refreshments and childcare will be provided at each of the meetings. Free parking for the first three hours will also be available at The Marketplace parking garage with validation. Additionally, translation services will be provided.

Rosemont Biodiversity Project Launch
Investigate the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We are launching a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species of plants and wildlife as possible using iNaturalist!
iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature. It can be used to record observations, get help with identifications, collaborate with others to collect plant and wildlife information for a common purpose, or access the observational data collected by iNaturalist users.
Become a “citizen scientist” by uploading photos to iNaturalist and to help us gain a better understanding of the plants, animals, birds, insects and other organisms that live in the Rosemont Preserve.
People of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Those who have a smart phone should bring it with the iNaturalist app downloaded.
We’ll also be playing scavenger hunt bingo. Find the plants and animals on your card and win a prize!
Park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta, and then walk north two blocks to enter the Rosemont Preserve. No reservations required, no pets please!
Rain cancels.
