Technological Community Award Winners
Our upcoming Community Awards Recognition Dinner is coming up next Thursday, Jan. 25 and there are more winners to talk about. Innovative technology and its advancements are the wave of the future – and we are spotlighting it.
I want to tell you about two of our winners that started right here in Glendale as well. The Business of the Year Award is going to Positron – Premium Cinematic VR. It is a business located in Sparr Heights and it is amazing. In the words of owners Jeffrey Travis and Jennifer Rundell, “We’re a team of filmmakers, engineers and artists. We are passionate about delivering a premium cinematic VR platform that creators and audiences love. Positron combines creative design, engineering, storytelling and brilliant coding to create amazing VR experiences. We are unique in the experiential design industry as our team includes actual rocket scientists working alongside designers and artists. Our background is working with a wide range of clients in multiple sectors and we love to bring their experiential technology ideas to life. Our clients include some of the world’s biggest brands, including Universal Studios, Intel, Chevron, John Deere, GE, Tesla and more.”
They are currently focused on the rollout of Voyager, their first product and the premium platform for cinematic VR loved by creators and audiences. Voyager is the world’s first full-motion chair for premium cinematic VR.
According to Fox News, “This is out of the exploratory zone and now into a viable exhibition format that exhibitors are putting into theaters.” Wow.
Our second award, Educator of the Year, goes to the Vahan & Anoush Chamlian Armenian School. To prepare students for the 21st century, the Chamlian School believes that it is imperative to integrate information and communication technologies into education. Technology access at Chamlian has created a tool to transform teaching and learning, especially as a method for increased communication and collaboration for every grade level. Chamlian has implemented technology as a 21st century learning tool integrated into the curriculum through Google Apps for education, cross-curricular projects, online reading portal, STEAM courses, cloud-based instruction and a paperless community. Teachers utilize document cameras, smartboards and Chromebook carts in their instructional practice to better equip their students as digital citizens. Their new technology center is designed to enhance student communication and collaboration opportunities. The Chromebox equipment is a Google platform that will enable teachers to create a student-centered environment that encourages innovation, collaboration and communication in the 21st century and beyond. By becoming proficient in locating, accessing, organizing, evaluating and applying information for a complex and technological world, and by becoming empowered and well-rounded learners capable of efficiently and effectively using emerging digital technologies, their students will be well-equipped for their future. Thank you, Chamlian Armenian School, for investing in our youth and being way ahead of the curve on technology in the classroom.
