The Rosemont Middle School Spartan football team finished the last game of the season on a high note on Thursday. They knew the 5-0 season is something to be proud of.
The team was scheduled to play six games but due to the bus strike missed one that could not be made up. The touch football team consists of one of several participating schools within the Glendale Unified School District. The others are Toll, Roosevelt and Wilson middle schools.
The Spartan coaches are from Crescenta Valley High School, Paul Schilling and Derrel Gossard. Rosemont Principal Scott Anderle said he had chosen to have coaches from CVHS for a reason.
“Coaching [here] gives them a chance to look at the upcoming talent,” he said. Anderle added he feels the high school coaches help get the kids excited about football at CVHS and builds a bridge between middle and high school.
“This helps foster that CV-Rosemont relationship,” he said.
Anderle said he was excited to see how the Rosemont team improved throughout the season from its first game against Toll where they were tied 0-0 until the last four minutes when the Spartans scored. The next time the team played Toll they won by 28 points.
The team learned that even after a tough game they could do better the next week with a new strategy and new plays.
“It was a good learning experience,” Anderle said.
