A Scout is Reverent…

Webelos 1 and 2 of Pack 314 at St. James-Holy Redeemer School earned the Parvuli Dei Religious Emblem. “Parvuli Dei” is Latin for “Children of God” and is the name of the religious award for fourth and fifth grade Cub Scouts. Earning the religious emblem is offered as an option in completing the requirements for the Duty to God Core

Adventure. It is therefore not mandatory, but all the Webelos opted to earn the emblem.

The process included completing a workbook individually, which took approximately two to six weeks. Activities in the workbook included reading Scripture and being introspective on what was read in addition to completing writing assignments, praying, and being involved in activities involving one’s family. There was also a service component that allowed the Scouts to interact with someone in need in their community and to see that they are valued members of it.

At the end of the process, the Scouts met with their pastor, Fr. Ed Dover, who reviewed various topics in the workbook with the boys as a group and then signed off on their application for the religious emblem.

At the end of Mass at Holy Redeemer Church on Scout Sunday, Feb. 4, with members of Verdugo Hills Council units including Troops 303, 317, and 315 in attendance, Webelos 1 & 2 received their medals. Fr. Ed, assisted by Maureen Brown from the Catholic Committee on Scouting, awarded the Parvuli Dei Religious Emblem to the following Cub Scouts: Andrew Harrison, Chris Lessa, Ethan Kwon, Felix LaPointe, Hagen Close, James Simmons, Marc Novoa, Mikey Harrison, Sebastian Brown and Teejay Gonzalez.

Pack 314 is proud of its Webelos 1 & 2 for taking an extra step to get a more in depth understanding of the 12th Point of the Scout Law…A Scout is Reverent.
