In Brief

Historic Hike Planned
The community is invited to join blogger-historian Scott Lowe on an easy two-hour round-trip hike through the heart of Southern Glendale. Along the way will be a stop at the Glendale Transportation Center (former Southern Pacific Depot); the Forest Lawn Gates (largest wrought-iron gates in the U.S.); the

Richardson House (oldest wood-frame house in Glendale); and the Goode House (oldest Glendale Victorian Queen Anne home still in its original location).

The hike is Saturday, March 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Reserve a spot by calling (818) 548-3795. Drinks and snacks will be served. This event is free to attend, but space is limited! Wear sturdy shoes and long pants and bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

Meet at the Glendale Transportation Center, 400 W. Cerritos Ave.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon
An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, March 4. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light. This is also a chance to participate in the Rosemont Biodiversity Project and become a citizen scientist!

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Arbor Day Celebration Planned
The community is invited to Glendale’s 68th Arbor Day observance on Tuesday, March 6 at 10 a.m. There will be light refreshments with program at 10:30 a.m. at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael.

This event recognizes those making donations of trees, and donors meeting the deadline will be presented with a certificate. Arbor Day remarks will be made by Stephanie Landregan, director for the Landscape Architecture Program and the Horticulture and Gardening Program at UCLA Extension.

Arbor Day activities are presented by Glendale Beautiful, a nonprofit working for a beautiful and green Glendale, in cooperation with the city’s Community Services and Parks Dept.
