It’s that time of year again – time for wine, hors d’oeuvres and shopping in the local businesses in Montrose. That’s right, it’s time for the Montrose Spring Wine Walk, coming this Saturday.

“This is our third Wine Walk, and our second spring [event.] We did one in the fall, in November, and this is our second one for spring,” said Dale Dawson, event coordinator for the Montrose Shopping Park Association.

For the ticket price of $45, each guest will receive a Wine Walk logo wine glass, a tote bag, 15 tasting tickets and $10 in scrip for Montrose stores, to be used either during the night of the event or later at leisure, as the scrip has no expiration date. There will be 32 businesses in Montrose pouring house-selected labels of reds, whites, rosés and sparkling wines, as well as providing some selected appetizers and hors d’oeuvres.

As co-sponsors of the event, the La Crescenta Woman’s Club will receive 15% of all ticket sales as a donation, and the members will be working the event, validating IDs, distributing wristbands and glasses and selling tickets to walk-up guests.

“They man our check-in station and, God bless them, you need a handful of people who can do that and they’re good at it,” Dawson said. “So they’ll be checking people in and moving them through very quickly.”

Though a little bit of weather is expected Saturday night, the event will be held rain-or-shine as all the tasting will be done inside the stores. This, among other reasons, is why it is a beloved event for the merchants of the Montrose Shopping Park.

“It has become, as far as the merchants are concerned, their favorite event because it doesn’t close any streets and all of the activity takes place inside the businesses, which is ideal for the merchants,” Dawson said, “versus doing street events where they may-or-may-not walk in. For this one, guests have to [walk in]. So the merchants get a lot of new faces, a lot of new customers, new names, email addresses and it is a big boost for all of them, I believe.”

The Wine Walk will be held on Saturday from 5 p.m. to
8 p.m. in the 2200-2400 blocks of the shopping park. Tickets are available for $45 online or in person at Casa Córdoba, Copy Network, Grayson’s Tune Town, It Takes A Village, Merle Norman Cosmetics and Mountain Rose Gifts prior to the event, or for $50 at the check-in booth on Saturday.
