Midnight Winds coming to La Cañada Pres
The Midnight Winds, a new Los Angeles-based woodwind quintet, will perform at La Canada Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. as part of the church’s acclaimed Ovations series.
The concert will feature music ranging from the 18th-century compositions of Haydn to the 20th-century works of Danish composer Carl Nielson, as well as a 21st-century piece of local origin, “Five Miniatures for Woodwind Quintet,” composed by LCPC director of Music and Worship Arts Jack Lantz.
Tickets, priced at $15, will be sold at the door. La Cañada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd.
Blessing of the Animals coming to St. Luke’s
St. Luke’s of the Mountains is having an outdoor Sunday worship service with a Blessing of the Animals to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
The gathering takes place this Sunday, Oct. 3 on the patio starting 9:30 a.m. Worship is at 10 a.m. Everybody is welcome to bring their pets.

Jazz concert coming to Unity
Unity Church of the Valley is hosting its annual Jazz Benefit Concert on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The concert features vocalist Brenna Whitaker and other outstanding performers. Brenna has performed with Michael Buble and is an exceptional new talent in the L.A. area.

LCPC announces return of Wednesday Night PEAK classes
La Crescenta Presbyterian Church is renewing its Wednesday night PEAK classes and dinner. PEAK stands for Praise, Education for Adults and Kids. Dinner is from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and classes run from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Classes are available for children age 6 months through junior high and also for adults. This fall there will be two classes offered for adults: “Fuel,” led by Lee Cook, will focus on finding strength through the journey of faith. Local marriage and family therapist Dr. Rick Lyon will lead the other class, ”We Are All Addicted – Stepping Stones into the Kingdom of God.” The class runs through November and will focus on a 12-step program that is based on the beatitudes from the Book of Matthew.

Lift Up La Crescenta continues
Lift Up La Crescenta, which was held this past May to bring the area’s residents together to pray on behalf of its schools, businesses, families and individuals, continued its mission of praying for the community on Sunday, Aug. 8 and will continue every second Sunday of the month. Parishioners from St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Glendale, La Crescenta Presbyterian Church and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in La Crescenta will come together monthly to bathe the Crescenta Valley community in prayer.
All are invited to participate.
Lift Up La Crescenta meets on the second Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. in the lower parking lot of La Crescenta Library. Meetings include group prayer and prayer station assignments. MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers – Crescenta Valley, serves moms and caregivers with kids age 0-6 years. The new semester starts in October at Open Bible Church on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $100 a semester and includes hot breakfast, speakers, crafts and childcare.
