Old New Kid on the Block
Hello, CV Weekly readers! My name is Matt Allen and I am the new assistant executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. Before I tell you about some of the exciting events we have coming up and how excited I am to be here, let me tell you a bit about myself.
I am a third generation La Crescenta native who has had the opportunity to grow up in the same house and attend the same schools as my mother (Monte Vista Elementary, Rosemont Middle and Crescenta Valley High). I’ve worked in the entertainment industry for the past 10 years until my wife and I recently welcomed our first child into the world and, as every parent knows, nothing will ever be the same.
Now onto local events!
The CV Chamber’s annual bingo game is fast approaching! The most exciting and closest event on our calendar is our bingo game, which is this coming Saturday, March 24 at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with food and beverages available and the first game set to start at 5:30 p.m. The good news is that we still have tickets available for purchase in the Chamber office for only $15! Each ticket comes with four cards for 10 games and one dauber. We are also still accepting sponsorships for games. If you sponsor a game, you will have the opportunity not only to call your game and issue the cash to the winner, but also to give a brief description and pitch of your business. I would like to thank those who have already committed to sponsoring a game this year: Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital, J’s Maids, American Legion Post 288, Senator Anthony Portantino, SIG Property Management, Taix Workout Studio, Battles Real Estate, Prom Plus, Dilbeck Real Estate-Maria Muriello and Bruce’s Automotive.
Crescenta Cañada Pet Hospital opened its doors in 1958 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year of providing exceptional quality pet healthcare! In addition to its generous sponsorship of a bingo game, it has also pledged an extra $100 cash to the winner of a game who won with the number O-60 being called last. We’ll keep our fingers (and paws) crossed for all of our pet parents in attendance.
As a new parent, I have a strong desire to establish for my son the same sense of community with the same family values and strong foundation that I was able to enjoy throughout my childhood. As a part of the CV Chamber, my hope is to be a better informed and a more active participant in our community. While it may take time to rekindle relationships with some and forge new friendships with others, I’m very excited to start a new journey in my life and can’t express what it means to be back home and have an opportunity to contribute to the community that has made me who I am.
