Crescenta Valley High School water polo players Alex Garas, Kaitlyn Moguel and Lexie Kawachi were named this week to the ALL-CIF Southern Section Division teams in girls’ water polo.
Garas, a junior, was named to the first team for the second straight year. She scored 58 goals this season in helping the Falcons win a ninth straight Pacific League championship.
Moguel,a senior who scored 83 goals, was named to the second team, and Kawachi, a sophomore, had 44 goals.
The Crescenta Valley High baseball is 7-4 in the young season after the team wrapped up its participation this week in the annual Babe Herman Tournament. Played at its home, Stengel Field, CV won its first three games of the week, the first over Paramount, 5-2, and again next time against Cajon, 2-1 and Carter, 11-5, before losing 1-0 on Tuesday against Upland, 1-0.
In the Upland loss, pitcher Trevor Beer pitched a complete game where he struck out 12 batters and didn’t allow a walk. The only score came in the third off a single given up by Beer, who a is a standout senior.
In the tournament opening win, pitcher Chris Lawson started the game, and pitched three innings and allowed two unearned runs. Justin Parrott came in and closed out the last four innings, shutting out Paramount.
The Falcons now set their sights to this weekend when they’ll play Mater Dei in San Diego for three games on Saturday. They open up the Pacific League on March 27 at Pasadena High at 3:30 p.m. They will host Pasadena on March 30 at 7 p.m.
The CV softball team is 9-1 after dominating tournament games this month. The girls have outscored their opponents 31-3 the past five games. They beat Sultana 6-0 in the High Desert championship game on March 17. On Saturday, they have games against Barstow and San Pedro in the Lincoln Classic tournament at Kennedy High School. The team plays the Pacific League opener on March 27 at Pasadena at 3:30 p.m.
The CVHS girls’ lacrosse team is 3-4 so far this season. They defeated Santa Monica 1-0 on Tuesday at home. They next play at Simi Valley on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
