Tickets on Sale for M.A.C.K. Night Out
Tickets are on sale for M.A.C.K. (Mountain Avenue Committed to Kids) Night Out, a fundraiser benefitting Mountain Avenue Elementary School including supporting Art in STEAM programming. Tickets are $50 per person, $35 per person for new families, and features catering by Sake Restaurant in Montrose, a full bar, music and live and silent auctions.
The event is on April 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and takes place at the Pasadena Masonic Temple, 200 S. Euclid Ave. in Pasadena. Babysitting arrangements are available.

Distinguished Schools Announced
Three GUSD elementary schools – Horace Mann Elementary, Monte Vista Elementary, and R.D. White Elementary – have been recognized as 2018 California Distinguished Schools.
The 2018 California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes California elementary schools that have made exceptional gains in implementing academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

 

Weekend Fun at Rosemont Preserve
Explore the outdoors and help restore native habitat at the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Come and see the new trail and help remove some invasive plants and water the young trees! Learn about its biodiversity project on iNaturalist and learn how to become a citizen scientist.
Bring water to drink, wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.
Then on Sunday, April 15 bring your kids for hands-on games, art projects and learning related to plants, animals, and local Native American heritage at the Preserve. There will also be a scavenger hunt and docent-led walks for those wishing to further explore the Preserve ecosystem. The gate will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This event is free to the public, all ages, no reservations required. Sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat are recommended, as are water and sunscreen.
Rain cancels these events. Sorry, no pets please.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave, La Crescenta, and then walk north two blocks to enter the Rosemont Preserve.

Human Trafficking Lecture Held At GCC
“Human Trafficking: A Survivor’s Story” will be presented by Soroptimists International of Glendale today, Thursday, April 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at Glendale Community College. The speakers are Ima Matul and Angela Guanzon of CAST (Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking.)
The event will be held in the Student Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.

 

Women Artists Supporting FoR
A collection of artists will be displaying and selling at the Art on the Rocks fair at St. Luke’s of the Mountains on April 21 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Indoors and outside, 25 vendors will be featured who are selling paintings, jams, music, jewelry, purses, ceramics, needlework and clothing. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., there will be a woman-owned (and family-operated) food truck on Foothill Boulevard.
Bring your friends, discover some beautiful craftwork and support those who support Friends of Rockhaven.

A SMART DriverTEK Workshop is being held at the Bob Smith Toyota on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. The free workshop provides information on crash avoidance systems currently available in cars and teaches how these systems enhance diver performance while saving lives.
