GEF seeking nominations
The Glendale Educational Foundation is seeking nominations to award six outstanding alumni or attendees of Glendale Unified School District its Diamond Awards. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 1. The Foundation will be honoring the recipients on Feb. 11 at its Dancing With Diamonds gala event. Author to speak at Montrose Library
Author John McReynolds is coming to the Montrose Library on Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to hold a reception for Japanese Americans who lived in Lompoc before World War II and who now live in the Los Angeles area. His book “Vanished: Lompoc’s Japanese” explores the history of what happened to the Japanese-American community before and after the war.
All are welcome to attend.

Relay for Life holding ceremony
Relay for Life-Foothills is holding a mini-luminaria kick-off ceremony on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. to Celebrate-Remember-Fight Back. The group will gather at the northeast corner of Oceanview Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue at the war memorial. Relay teams are urged to participate. Evening of Wine And Roses at Glendale Memorial
There is still time to take part in the 23rd Annual Evening of Wine and Roses – A Tuscan Affair benefiting Glendale Memorial Hospital.
This Sunday, Oct. 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m., guests can enjoy the culinary cuisine of Tuscany, Italy. This event will feature a gourmet experience created under the direction of the top Italian culinary talents in Los Angeles.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chest Pain Center at Glendale Memorial Hospital. The Chest Pain Center is designed to provide rapid assessment and evaluation to determine the cause of a person’s chest pain. Glendale Memorial Hospital is located at 1420 S. Annual Unity Fest this weekend
The Annual Unity Fest International Street Fair takes place on Sunday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Brand Boulevard between California and Lexington. The event is free. According to representatives, the City of Glendale’s goal with the Unity Fest is to celebrate unity through diversity. This year’s event will feature a global marketplace including live entertainment, international food court, Farmer’s market, arts and crafts and Children’s games and activities.
Free parking will be available at the Orange Street Garage, 222 N. Orange Street.
