Time for the Community’s Hometown Country Fair

Food trucks, pups on parade, karaoke and a parade of cars are just some of the fun found at the fair.

For the 13th year the Hometown Country Fair will be held at Crescenta Valley Park. This year’s event is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“It’s like a big block party for the community,” said Calvin “Kaipo” Chock, president of the CV Chamber of Commerce and chair of the event. The Hometown Country Fair is sponsored by the CVCOC and Chock has been “fair chair” for four years.

Fair-goers each year find new things at the community event and this year will be no different. This year’s fair will honor first responders, including those serving the Glendale and Los Angeles fire departments, Glendale Police Dept., LA County Sheriff’s Dept., Montrose Search and Rescue and California Highway Patrol.

In years past, there were classic cars on display from the Early Rodders but this year the Early Rodders decided to change it up by having a Parade of Cars.

“This is one of the fastest pre-sign-ins the Chamber has had with cars,” said Dwight Sityar, member of Early Rodders, of the popularity of the Parade. “Fifty cars are coming from our local area.”

The car owners, “car guys,” will provide a little history of their cars and that information will be shared with fair-goers.

“An announcer will introduce each car so the audience will get to know, see and hear those awesome machines as they go by – like a beauty pageant,” Sityar said. “This ‘Parade’ makes it different from other car shows. It becomes a little personal now that the audience knows something about each car before it is parked for display.”

There will be a wide variety of cars coming onto the park grounds, including old-school hot rods, muscle cars, classic cars, custom cars and new tri-wheel bikes. The public is invited to watch and enjoy the Parade of Cars at 11 a.m., he added.

LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Assemblymember Laura Friedman and Senator Anthony Portantino, as well as Glendale Unified School District board of education members Shant Sahakian and Jennifer Freemon will be on hand to thank first responders for all they do for the communities they serve.

Chock said there will be a lot for families to do including several inflatables for all ages of kids, food trucks, pie-eating contest, karaoke and lots of great music.

“[One of the most] popular things is the dog parade,” said Jean Maluccio, CVCOC board member.

The dog parade will be held at 12:15 p.m., karaoke begins at 12:45 p.m. and the pie-eating contest is at 1:30 p.m.

The event is free to attend, but there are tickets sold for inflatables and charges for items at the food trucks.

CV Park is located at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. at Honolulu Avenue.
