Busy Bee
With as busy as I am (in April alone I was at the Craft Beer and Food Fest, Special Olympics [see my story on page 6], the Hometown Country Fair and bingo for Prom Plus on Saturday night [photos by Dick Clubb on page 15]) you would think that I couldn’t squeeze anything else into my schedule. But I just couldn’t help but accept the invitation by the Kiwanis Club of Glendale to come aboard.
Let me just say that I’ve had the privilege of being acquainted with many of the local Kiwanis Clubs and that most have supported Prom Plus in a variety of ways, primarily financial. The Kiwanis, like Prom Plus, centers its attention on helping children, so our paths are aligned. Over the years, the Kiwanis Clubs have given me the microphone to share the vision of Prom Plus and for that I’m forever grateful. I look forward, in fact, to their ongoing support.
On Friday afternoon, April 27, I was given the mic at the Kiwanis Club of Glendale for a different purpose – to share the story of how the Crescenta Valley Weekly came about. As I have said before, that is one story that I never tire of telling. The club was so welcoming and attentive that my time was over before I knew it. What I did know, though, was this was a group that I want to be a part of. So when the invitation was extended, I accepted.
If my application is approved, I will add Proud Kiwanian to the list of organizations with which I’m affiliated. I won’t be surprised if some of my fellow Kiwanians make their way to the YMCA on May 19 to be part of Prom Plus.
After all, it’s all for the kids.
Oh, don’t forget that Taste of Montrose –one of the biggest fundraisers for Prom Plus – is this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are here at the office (3800 La Crescenta Ave. #101 in La Crescenta) or at our booth at Oceanview and Honolulu on Sunday morning.
