SIERRA CLUB CELEBRATES FOURTH OF JULY
The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club group celebrates the Fourth of July on Saturday, June 2 this year. Early planning in June celebrates National Trails Day as several members of the Crescenta Valley group are volunteers with the Glendale Trails and Open Spaces Foundation. The location will be as usual, Deukmejian Wilderness Park. The event, Brunch and Hike, will start at 8 a.m. with the hike led by leaders Bettie and Bobcat and watering trees along the way.

STORYTIMES AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE

EDVARD GRIEG ON MUSIQUES’ ROSTER
The next presentation of Salon de Musiques is on June 3. “Edvard Grieg: A Lifelong Passion For A Muse” The presentation will also highlight the music of Jean Sibelius and Frank Bridge.
This is an exquisite program for voice, strings and piano and will be performed by seven virtuosos: So Young Park, soprano; Jessica Guideri and Ambroise Aubrun, violins; Jonathan Moerschel, viola; Jacob Braun, cello; David Kaplan and Francois Chouchan, piano. An informal Q&A with the artists will follow the performance and a gourmet high tea buffet provided by Patina that includes French champagne will be served.

ATTENTION MUSIC LOVERS
Dr. Ted Stern, a professor of music, is again conducting a series of music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for non-musicians and musicians alike and explores the histories of composers and their music. This new series of classes will cover the topic “Popular Music Before the 20th Century (Not Everyone in Vivaldi’s Time Was Listening to Concertos!).”
The series of classes will begin Tuesday, June 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and continuing every Tuesday through Aug. 7 at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church Cultural Hall.

THE PIONEERS OF EAGLE ROCK
Bolton Hall Museum’s Second Saturday program on June 9 at 1 p.m. tells the early history of the neighboring community of Eagle Rock. Today Eagle Rock is one of Los Angeles’ most distinctive neighborhoods. Program speakers are Eagle Rock historians and authors Eric Warren and Frank Parello. This program is held at Bolton Hall Museum and is free and open to the public; everyone is welcome.

FAMILY FUN DAY AT AHEAD WITH HORSES

LOCAL AUTHOR TO MAKE PRESENTATION

SUNLAND TUJUNGA PREPARES FOR 4TH OF JULY PARADE
The Sunland Tujunga Shadow Hills Rotary Club is again hosting the Sunland Tujunga 4th of July Parade. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4 on Foothill Boulevard at Summitrose Street. The parade will run down Foothill Boulevard to Sunland Boulevard, and is free of charge for both participants and spectators.

CHASING HISTORY AT
BOLTON HALL
On Saturday, July 14 at 2:30 p.m., Tujunga’s Bolton Hall Museum and Little Landers Historical Society invite everyone to join in on a special event and a fun way to learn more about local history. “Chasing History” is a fundraiser for Bolton Hall Museum to help the Museum and its volunteers continue providing free historical public programs and exhibits. Little Landers Historical Society has identified and created clues for 16 of the most interesting and intriguing foothill historical sites from Lake View Terrace to La Crescenta. Participants will register a vehicle for the event and ask friends and family members to ride along as part of their team. Using the clues provided, each team will find and photograph as many locations as possible in the time allotted.
Everyone will start the quest at Bolton Hall Museum at 2:30 p.m. and will gather at McGroarty Arts Center by 6 p.m. for prize awards, photo viewing and sharing tales of the day’s adventures. A Mexican dinner, drinks and dessert will be available for purchase. A vehicle registration fee of $40 includes clues to all 16 locations. For a $75 vehicle registration, actual directions to each location will be provided.

LOCAL YOGA CLASS
Gentle/level one yoga classes continue on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church.
This class will improve joint mobility, flexibility, muscle strength and balance and will include some restorative yoga poses to help the body heal its own aches and pains by engaging the parasympathetic system. NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
