The Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on May 5 for three local scouts.

Carter Jameson Walch achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 24, 2016. His love for scouting began at the age of 8 in Cub Scouts where he enjoyed camp outs, the pinewood derby and earning his Arrow of Light. He was excited to continue in scouting, to experience nature up close, and traveled with his troop at various scout camps including in Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. Some of his favorite merit badges were fishing, archery, rifle shooting and fingerprinting. He chose Club 21, an organization that provides the tools and resources to enable individuals with Down syndrome to be fully included, for his service project because of his youngest sister Chloe, who had Down syndrome. His project included building shelves and creating an organized workspace for the learning center at Club 21.

Walch is a senior at Crescenta Valley High School and will be attending Brigham Young University in the fall.

Hayden Elze, 16, of La Crescenta also earned his Eagle Scout Award. Elze joined Troop 391 of the Verdugo Hills Council as a Cub Scout when he was 8 years old where he earned the Arrow of Light Award. Elze then moved on to Boy Scouts at age 11, where he held leadership positions as senior patrol leader, patrol leader and troop guide. He earned 26 merit badges. Through scouting, Elze developed leadership skills, lasting friendships and a love for camping and hiking. For his Eagle Scout project, Elze organized a landscaping project at Fire Station 74 in Sunland. The project consisted of collecting donations, removing tree stumps, applying decomposed granite and topsoil and beautifying the area.

Elze is a sophomore at Crescenta Valley High School where he plays baseball on the JV team and plays the viola in the orchestra.

Maclean Lunt, 17, started Cub Scouts when he was 8 years old, and earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor given in Cub Scouts. At age 11, Lunt moved on to Boy Scouts where he earned 28 merit badges, camped all over the west with his Scout Troop, and served in a number of leadership positions in scouting – including troop bugler for Troop 391. For his Eagle project he and his volunteers painted the giant Falcon mascot that is on the retaining wall at Crescenta Valley High School near the tennis courts.

Lunt is a junior at Crescenta Valley High School and plays the trumpet in symphony as well as playing on the men’s tennis team. He enjoys the outdoors, and scouting has been a great experience.
