Dr. Ted Stern, a professor of music, is again conducting a series of music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for non-musicians and musicians alike and explores the histories of composers and their music. This new series of classes will cover the topic “Popular Music Before the 20th Century (Not Everyone in Vivaldi’s Time Was Listening to Concertos!).”

GINNY SAND TO SPEAK AT LCGOP WOMEN
La Crescenta GOP Women is hosting Ginny Sand, president of Connect the Dots who worked for Dr. Ben Carson’s campaign, who will explain how conservative groups need to connect.
Also speaking will be Marc Ang who founded the Pass the Beacon initiative to bridge disparate groups of conservatives in Orange County. He is focused on Asian, campus and swing voters.

FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON FUNDRAISER
The USC-VHH Women’s Council is hosting a Victorian fashion show and luncheon at the hospital today, Thursday, June 14 to raise funds for the newly opened neonatal intensive care unit. The show highlights the
intricacies of dressing the fashionable Victorian woman.
The luncheon and fashion show begins at 11:30 a.m. at the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital council rooms. The cost is $40 per person.

REDBIRD EVENTS
Redbird, a Native American and environmental non-profit association, is hosting community events. Most are based in the Angeles National Forest; all are based in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. They are open to everyone, and most are free, or suggest a donation.
On Friday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be an equine sculpture workshop with Susan Carlton Sifton. All skill levels welcome. Bring a work in progress or start a new piece; bring materials or use theirs. A $20 donation includes potluck-style lunch.

VERDUGO HUUT ARTISANAL HOOTENANNY
The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills has opened its 100-seat sanctuary to LA folk, alt-country, and acoustic musicians as well as authors, poets, and comedians for the monthly Verdugo HUUT. On Friday, June 15 performers include LA-Americana crooner Carrie Wade, the harmonious and groovy power couple Non Duo (Paul McCarty and Marina Gutman), ASCAP prizewinner Ric Taylor, Warrant co-founder Josh Lewis (with tales of LA hair bands on the Sunset Strip), HUUT house band Fogelfoot, and Carleen Carney, who will spin a tale of intrigue from the California Cookie Cutter Collectors’ Club. Following the show is a HUUT!-standard audience singalong. Tickets are $5.

ART FAIR AT MC GROARTY

LOCAL AUTHOR TO MAKE PRESENTATION
On Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m.,
Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse welcomes epic fantasy authors Christopher Husberg and D.J. Butler for a reading, discussion and signing of their recent books. Husberg’s just released “Blood Requiem” is the third installment in his Chaos Queen Quintet. D.J. Butler’s “Witchy Winter” is the sequel to his “Witchy Eye.”
Then, on Thursday, June 28 at 7p.m., Flintridge Bookstore hosts a presentation by La Cañada Flintridge resident Donald Lee Sheppard, author of “The Dividends of Decency: How Values-Based Leadership will Help Business Flourish in Trump’s America.”
In his new book, Sheppard underlines the importance of businesses maintaining strong moral values not simply because it is “the right thing to do” but because the practice pays off with better long-term bottom-line performance. NCL HOSTING BLOOD DRIVE
The Glendale Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. will hold its 12th annual “From the Heart” American Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at USC-VHH. The summer is a time when blood supplies are very low and donors are urgently needed. Members of the community are encouraged to make an appointment to donate by emailing fromtheheart@nclglendale.org, or by signing up for this drive on the American Red Cross San Gabriel-Pomona Valley website.

SUNLAND TUJUNGA PREPARES FOR 4TH OF JULY PARADE
The Sunland Tujunga Shadow Hills Rotary Club is again hosting the Sunland Tujunga 4th of July Parade. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4 on Foothill Boule-vard at Summitrose Street. The parade will run down Foothill Boulevard to Sunland Boulevard, and is free of charge for both participants and spectators.

POLLACK AT SIERRA CLUB
The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club Group will present Alan Pollack’s, “Restoring Habitat, One Yard at a Time” on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library.
Pollack’s slide show and lecture is about gardening for wildlife, a presentation of the organization, “Audubon-at-Home.” His lively and informative program comes with handouts of printed materials. He adds that he has been a lifelong Sierra Club member and has lectured previously to several Sierra Club chapters.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
