Six hundred people recently raced in La Cañada Flintridge in The Great Chocolate Race to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Before the race’s start, runners could be seen cramming the upper portion of Cornishon Avenue. Some stretched; others clutched the leashes of barking dogs that were anxious to tow their owners around the course. Debbie Post, president of Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, introduced Mayor Davitt who welcomed all the participants and thanked the Guild for organizing the event. Then they were off – running, jogging and walking. Along the course several racers clustered around three different pit stops, drinking water and enjoying chocolate treats. Others, glistening with sweat, kept on running.
After the race, many gathered in Memorial Park, La Cañada for a hearty breakfast and awards ceremony. Adults enjoyed a silent auction provided by Teens for the Advancement of Children’s Hospital (TACH). TACH entertained the kids with a bounce house, face painting and other activities. Dogs rested in the shade after a strenuous morning.
All proceeds from this event benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
Founded in 1901, CHLA is one of the nation’s leading pediatric academic medical centers and is acknowledged worldwide for its leadership in pediatric and adolescent health.
