Signs of Summer

Though the official start of summer isn’t until next week (June 21 to be exact), signs can be found that one of my favorite seasons is just around the corner. The cues include the launch of this year’s The Finest ballot.

If you’re a regular reader of the CV Weekly, you know that right around June 1 we start placing in the paper and on our website ballots for The Finest. The Finest gives our readers the opportunity to brag about those businesses and service providers that they feel are the best, that go above and beyond, that are The Finest. Creating The Finest was in response to requests by our readers to provide an opportunity to share their positive experiences.

We were tempted to call it the Best Of, but we wanted to relay the importance of winning these coveted votes and felt the title of The Finest truly reflected the value of this recognition. Each year our readers understand their role and enthusiastically fill out and submit their ballots. A minimum of 10 choices must be made on each ballot and each year we tally around 10,000 votes. To be named The Finest is truly an honor. Remember that ballots must be received or postmarked no later than July 6.

Another sign that summer is just about here is planning outside dining and listening. I’ve already shared with you the fond memories I have – and plan to make more – of attending Music in the Park in La Cañada that takes place on Sunday evenings. Another of my favorite spots every summer is at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank. Whether cover bands or the real deal are performing, the music is excellent and typically gets the audience up on its feet. Starlight Bowl kicks off its season on July 4 with the High Street Band. Of course, Independence Day is a big deal. Plans for the 2018 CV Fireworks Extravaganza over at CV High School are already well underway and, in fact, you can support this event by sending a check in the envelope provided in this week’s paper.
