Falcons’ Football Schedule Released
While it may seem as if summer is just getting started, high school football season is closer than you think. The Crescenta Valley High varsity football team will end its summer practice and passing tournament season on July 7 at the Arroyo Tournament, and will return on July 30 to prepare for the 2018 season.
School begins on Aug. 22, but the games begin five days before. The Falcons will host Redondo Union on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at Glendale High’s Moyse Field.
Two days after school starts, the team is back at it against Santa Fe at Pioneer High School. In fact, the Falcons play three times in August, an unusual occurrence, but the CIF sports scheduled has been moved up.
The final game of the year will be held at Arcadia on Oct. 26. The regular season finale usually comes in early November. For the first time in many years, a game against La Cañada is not on the schedule. In its place is a road tilt with Montebello, the third game of the season. All game times are set for 7 p.m.
There is no game scheduled for Sept. 7.
CV went 8-3 last season, finishing third in the Pacific League and losing in the first round of the CIF Division VI playoffs to Mira Costa. Cole Doyle (above) is set to return as the starting quarterback. The team will deal with the loss of many departed players, but will welcome back returning players Chuck Meyer, Tommy Lee and lineman Armen Erdoglyan.

CIF Honors for CV’s Hernandez
CIF honors were handed out in softball last week, and Crescenta Valley High School’s Dee Dee Hernandez was named to the All-CIF Southern Section first-team.
Hernandez was a freshman in 2017-18, and helped the Falcons to a Pacific League Championship. CV went 25-3 overall, 13-1 in league and advanced to the second round of Division III. They defeated Knight High School, but lost to El Modena.
Hernandez was voted Pacific League pitcher of the year, and proved her worth not only inside the circle, but at the plate as well.
Flintridge Prep had two stars named to the first-team as well. Emma Stellar and Melissa Grande shared honors with Hernandez.
Last month, Hernandez’s teammates, Alyssa Hernandez, Kristy Taix, a junior outfielder, and Maddie Deleon, were given All-League first-team recognition.
Burroughs sophomore Chloe Bookmyer was voted Pacific League Player of the Year.
