Big Plans
As I write this (Tuesday afternoon), the Fourth of July festivities have not yet taken place … but I’m excited about all that is planned.
CV Weekly signed up to be a part of the Fourth of July parade on Wednesday morning hosted by the Sunland-Tujunga Rotary Club – a first for us. With us will be the Montrose Search and Rescue team, another first. I’m not sure what to expect, but am confident that it will be great time.
On Wednesday night (last night), the Goldsworthys had places picked out at Crescenta Valley High School to watch the fireworks display. With a definite increase in ticket sales from our office leading up to the fireworks show, I’m hopeful that the display will be profitable enough to insure a show next year. Remember that the entire show is organized and run by volunteers; the money charged for admission goes against the costs of the event – an estimated $1,000 a minute. Donations to the CV Fireworks Assn. are still being accepted.
With our youngest spending his first Fourth of July in the Air Force, this year’s celebration holds special meaning. I hope that you, too, will look back fondly on this Independence Day.

While the fireworks were sizzling, they nearly paled in comparison to expected temperatures this weekend. We’ve been warned that it’s going to reach over 100 degrees, so do your best to keep cool and don’t forget about your pets. They need extra attention, too.
In her weather column, Sue Kilpatrick shares some insights regarding this weekend’s weather. On page 4, Mary O’Keefe’s story also talks about the heat and includes information on local cooling stations among other things. I know you’ll find their information useful.
And don’t forget that Friday is the deadline to mail or turn in ballots for The Finest 2018!
