The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station is hosting its annual rummage sale on July 28 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a variety of items for sale, from furniture to clothes, toys to books. The donations for the rummage sale come from the community. For anyone who has a closet that needs to be cleaned out, now is the time.

“We are still looking for donations and will accept them [up to] Thursday [July] 19,” said Dep. Alex Covian, community service officer at the CV Station.

Donations can be brought to the CV Station or, with larger items, Covian said they are able to come by and pick them up.

The rummage sale is a fundraiser sponsored by the sheriff volunteers. The volunteer program for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. saves the department time and money. The program includes Volunteers on Patrol, the Neighborhood Watch program and the volunteer appreciation banquet. Volunteers also help with traffic control for events and in emergencies like traffic collisions.

The number of hours volunteers served throughout the entire LASD in 2017 was 364,520, which saved the department a total of $10,374,251. For the Crescenta Valley Station specifically, volunteers served 5,760 hours, which saved the station $163,929.

The rummage sale brings in a lot of customers from all over the area and beyond. They often line up early waiting for the gates to open.

“And the prices are reasonable,” Covian added.

Each year the south parking lot at the station is transformed to a bargain hunters’ paradise. Tables line the parking spaces full of treasures including toys, kitchen items and clothing. Several larger items, including furniture, bicycles and workout equipment, are also typically offered for sale.

The CV Station is located at 4554 Briggs Ave. in La Crescenta. For more information, contact the CV Sheriff’s Station at (818) 248-3464.
