Singing to help others have dinner

Holy Redeemer middle school and St. James elementary students sang karaoke, but not before donating a canned food item for a school-wide community service project.
On Friday night, Oct. 1, the school hosted its third annual Karaoke Family Fun Night that benefited the pantry at Friends In Deed in Pasadena.
Friends In Deed serves supplemental food to more than 200 low income and homeless families each week. It has experienced a staggering increase in clients over the past year. In January 2008 the pantry served 497 families. The number has steadily increased, and in June 2009, 919 families were served.
The karaoke event was held at the Holy Redeemer campus at 2361 Del Mar Road in Montrose. The school’s eighth grade students were responsible for organizing and running the evening’s activities.
