On Saturday Honolulu Avenue  took on a language of  its own – that of Germany as the avenue exploded with Oktoberfest celebrants.

According to Rose Gamble of the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce, which hosted the event, an estimated 20,000-25,000 people visited Montrose.

“It was huge,” Gamble said of the turnout. “People came from all over the country.”

Oktoberfest is the chamber’s largest fund raiser. Last year, rain dampened Oktoberfest attendance, but clear skies and mild temperatures made for a perfect combination on Saturday.

New attractions this year included performers from Cirque du Soleil who walked along Honolulu Avenue entertaining the crowd.

Cardboard cutouts were also set up along the avenue providing fun photo opportunities.

Though receipts are still being tabulated, Gamble estimates that Saturday’s attendance and proceeds will be the strongest in 10 years.

It was certainly an occasion to remember, according to Gamble.

“Everything was perfect.”
