A group of 50 gathered for the Las Candelas Annual Holiday Gala on Sunday, Dec. 21 at a private club in Pasadena. The festive evening included caroling by 20 members of the Towne Singers Chamber Chorale, one of whom was Las Candelas member Sharon Anderson.

Enjoying the music and the prime rib dinner were Carolyn and Ron Beaton, Marion and Paul Greene, Diane Russell, Valerie Moorhead and brother Tom Tyler, Debbie and Bruce Hinckley, Diane Johnson, Shirley Johnstone and Joe King, Fran and Terry Buchanan, Ann and Stan Jones, Cathy and Bob Keen, Sharon and Doug Anderson, Ron and Patti Baker, Jeri Benton and Robert Clark, Anna and Bill Brewer, JC and John Byer, Joan and Bob Campbell, Carole De Paul and Larry Hamm, Jeannie Flint and David Werbelow, Sally and Jim Perkins, Ann Ways, Marcia and John Lytle, Mary Barber, Harriett and Bob Rector, Ellyn and Richard Semler, Monica and Jose Sierra, Ginny and John Simpson, Roberta Raffaelli, and Karen and Page Whyte. The evening was topped off with a seasonal English toffee pudding.

The organization recently celebrated 62 years of continuous volunteer service and support to emotionally challenged children, and it continues to promote better understanding of mental health needs of children. Las Candelas provides financial support, programs or services to Glendale Healthy Kids, Glendale YWCA, Hillsides Education Center, Hathaway-Sycamores in Altadena, Ascencia Transitional Homeless Shelter and Didi Hirsch Mental Health Center (formerly Verdugo Mental Health and Glen Roberts Child Center which Las Candelas played a role in founding 60 years ago).

Proceeds from the Las Candelas Biennial Benefit Luncheon/Fashion Show provide the means to fund these programs. This year’s event, “Surrounded by Love,” will be held Monday, March 2 at the Los Angeles Marriott-Burbank Airport Hotel.  Fashions by designer Ali Rahimi will be featured.
