On Dec. 29 several members of American Legion Post 288 in La Crescenta held what may have been their last informal meeting at the Montrose Bakery. Owner Henry Baeza recently announced that he would be retiring and the bakery would be closing. The members often met at the bakery to discuss or plan Legion activities over the years. The members always felt welcomed by owner Henry Baeza noting that he was always a gracious host by allowing them to congregate at his establishment and often supplied coffee and treats.
At the December meeting, American Legion Post Commander Gerry Collins presented Baeza with certificate of appreciation as well as an American Legion “challenge coin.” These represented the Post’s gratitude from the veteran members for his support of the Legion’s many community projects over the years, especially his support of the Post’s “Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans Day” in Montrose.
