Community leader and non-profit executive Mercy Velázquez has been named by the Arturo Sandoval Institute (ASI) board as CEO of the organization. She is the immediate past president of Glendale Kiwanis Club, serving as the fourth woman president in 91 years and is their Membership chair. She is also past president of the Glendale Latino Association and Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce. She has received numerous awards and commendations for her service over the years including the 2009 CA State Senator Carol Liu Woman of the Year, and one of the 2010 Best 20 Women in Business in 20 years. She also was recently named Glendale Latino Association 2014 Woman of the Year.

Marci Sortor, dean and provost of St. Olaf College, has named the following local students to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester. The dean’s list recognizes students with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.

Caitlin and Margaret Connell from La Crescenta are undeclared majors. They are graduates of Crescenta Valley High School and the daughters of Brian Connell and Gail Connell.

Madeline Crowley from La Cañada Flintridge is a studio art and environmental studies major. Crowley is a graduate of Westridge School for Girls and the daughter of Philip and Ann Crowley .

Juniata College in Huntingdon, Penn. has named 371 students to the dean’s list for the 2013 fall semester. Each student must have at least a 3.6 grade average out of a possible 4.0.

Audrey Elizabeth Harris of La Crescenta, daughter of George and Robin Harris and a 2010 graduate of Immaculate Heart High School was named to the 2013 fall dean’s list.
