Beginning on Monday, Feb. 1 AARP tax aide volunteers will be certified and ready to help individuals prepare their 2009 income tax returns at two local sites. The free tax service is done while the taxpayer waits and will continue through April 15. It is very important that each taxpayer bring their last year’s tax report. In addition taxpayers are required to bring: social security cards for themselves and all dependents; photo ID, all records of income earned, W-2s from each employer; unemployment compensation; SSA 1099; all 1099 forms showing interest, dividends; 1099 miscellaneous; 1099 R if you received pension or annuities; all forms indicating federal income tax paid; dependent care provider information; all receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions, real estate taxes paid if a homeowner. The free tax preparation will be available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Feb. 1 at Sparr Heights Community Center, 1613 Glencoe Ave., Glendale (818) 548-2188. Note that Sparr Heights will be closed Presidents Holiday on Feb. 15. Beginning Feb. 3 on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. tax preparation service will be available at Montrose Library; 2465 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose (818) 548-2048.
Unlike previous years, AARP volunteers will be unable to offer their services at the Sunland Senior Center.
