The Hansen Dam Riding Center Pony Club located at Hansen Dam Equestrian Center is hosting an open house on Feb. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. This is an opportunity for the public to ask questions and find out more about their program. Hansen Dam Riding Center Pony Club is open to riders 6 years old and above including adults, of all abilities, in both English and Western disciplines and regardless of a member’s access to a mount.
Pony Club originated in England as an organization to train and certify young horsemen to be knowledgeable, professional and safe. Today Pony Club is the largest equestrian educational organization in the world. The U.S. Pony Club program includes certifications in most English disciplines, Western, tetratholn (riding, swimming, running and marksmanship) as well as the horsemasters program for adults wishing to take part in the same educational and certification program. The Hansen Dam Riding Center Pony Club promotes life skills such as teamwork, a sense of responsibility, safety, self-confidence and leadership, through teaching members riding and the care of horses. Members build upon their horsemanship by progressing through the Standards of Proficiencies and earning certifications as each level requires an increased depth of knowledge and skill. There are opportunities to compete through events such as rallies and championships.
