The Two Sides of an Artist

Michael Allen and his wife Geena Marie were recently introduced to La Crescenta when Geena was invited to join the La Crescenta Woman’s

Club. As a new member, she brought Michael with her to a club meeting giving the members an opportunity to get to know them both.

Professional dancers originally hailing from Chicago, the couple met in the dance company in which they were performing. Trained in multiple dance disciplines, they perform as a duo in contemporary and classic dance forms, and also in other specialties, including one of Michael’s favorites, traditional West African Dance. Geena Marie teaches dance and fitness classes as well.

It was the dance genre of the entertainment business that brought them to Los Angeles.

Michael also has a long history of being involved in service to the community … both in Chicago and in California. He has a heart for those in need and it has led him to become executive director of Healing California, an important charitable non-profit based in the LA area.

Healing California serves veterans and other needy individuals by providing free vision and dental care. Healing California members travel in their Healing California lab-equipped vans to local neighborhood planned service events. Last month Michael gave an inspiring lecture and audio/visual presentation at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, assisted by Geena, which showcased the work of Healing California.

Upcoming will be an Allen Family Showcase, a dance recital planned for Wednesday, Feb. 14. The location will be the La Crescenta Woman’s Club event center and stage at 11 a.m. It is open to the public, but seat reservation is recommended.
