La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild (LCFOG) held its Feb. 4 meeting at the home of Easy Delaney, Hospitality Events chair. President Joan Cleven called the meeting to order. Treasurer Joanne Plosajz announced LCFOG will donate $17,268.94 to the Charitable Children’s Guild (CCG) for distribution to Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC). This will complete LCFOG’s pledge of $100,000 to OIC.
LCFOG’s main goal is to raise funds to support the construction of an Ambulatory Surgery Center on the Los Angeles downtown campus.
“Construction is right on schedule,” said Mary Beth Perrine, senior director of Community Outreach adding that the doors should be ready to open in May.
Thousands of children who are treated each year by OIC will have the services of the surgery center available if needed and will not have to travel to another area for their surgical needs.
Members of the Guild brought donations of home baked and bakery bought cookies to the meeting. Caryl Pettit, CCG liaison, will deliver the cookies to OIC. Every February members provide cookies for each department at OIC to thank the staff for their hard work in providing care for the children.
After the Guild meeting, members traveled to the Pasadena Museum of History and were given a private guided tour of the current display, “Fabulous Fashions.” Fashion trends ranged from uncomfortable corsets and ornate bodices of the 1890s to loose fitting dresses of the 1920s flappers to the full skirts and princess dresses of the 1950s were displayed. Also on exhibit were the shoes, purses and undergarments accompanying the clothing. The display and the commentary evoked many memories.
The La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild meets on the first Thursday of each month from September to June. Anyone interested in attending a meeting is asked to contact Marie Gilhooly at (818) 248-5262 for further information.
