Authors and Illustrators is coming to Valley View Elementary School on Monday, Feb. 28. Authors Tao Nyeu, Caroline Arnold, Joe Ceped, and Tracy Holczer will be taking part via Zoom.
Authors and Illustrators is a program brought to Glendale Unified School District schools by the Assistance League of Glendale (ALG) to encourage the students to read, write their own stories and illustrate them. In addition to paying for the authors to make these presentations, the League gives the school $2,000 to buy books for their library. Kelly Stubbs, principal at Valley View School, accepted this year’s check from Linelle Vincenti, chairman of Assistance League Glendale’s Authors and Illustrators program.
ALG has other philanthropies including Operation School Bell that provides students with school uniforms. ALG provides college scholarships to GUSD and GCC graduates and also helps Ascencia residents relocate. Luncheons for seniors are offered at their clubhouse – Thrift Alley – at 314 E. Harvard St. in Glendale. Donations can be dropped off at the Thrift Alley Wednesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; these donations are then resold. The more folks buy from Thrift Alley, the more ALG gives back to the communities of Glendale and La Crescenta. For more information call President Carol Svatora at (586) 202-8764.
Shoppers can now buy ALG high-end items and collectibles online at assistance-league-glendale.myshopify.com.
