The Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus (VHWC), which performs for civic groups, senior facilities, churches and other venues in the foothill communities, will head out to a joint rehearsal for the annual California Women’s Chorus (CWC) Scholarship Concert. This year the rehearsal is hosted by the San Diego Serra-Naders and Sweet Harmony choruses and will be held at the Church of the Foothills, 19211 Dodge Ave. in Santa Ana on Saturday, March 12. Refreshments served from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Singers must be in their places and ready to perform at 9 am. The rehearsal will conclude at 1 p.m.
VHWC is a member chorus of CWC, which is dedicated to promoting choral singing among women and raising funds for scholarships for vocal music students. VHWC, with members of the Serra-Naders and Sweet Harmony of San Diego, Long Beach Choral Belles, New Century Singers of Whittier, Burbank Singers, Riverside Mission Belles, Santa Barbara Treble Clef and the Harbor Singers, will attend the combined rehearsal and perform at the CWC public concert on May 1 at 2 p.m. The concert will take place at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, 8110 Aero Drive in San Diego. This will be the first time many of the singers will meet guest director, Tom Barich. Barich became involved in church music at an early age; his first post was organist at the A.M.E. Church in Douglas, Arizona at the age of 15. Since relocating to San Diego in 1997, he has been assistant director and accompanist for the San Diego Youth Master Chorale and accompanist for the Jefferson-Moss Chorale. Barich is currently the director of music at University Christian Church in San Diego.
