On the west coast, the stock market opens at 6:30 a.m. as opposed to 9:30 a.m. The Morgan Stanley Smith Barney – Glendale office was putting their early morning hours to good use recently by serving hot breakfast to 40 people at Ascencia’s headquarters in Glendale.

The employees of the branch banded together to take shifts of five volunteers at a time to provide eggs, bacon, burritos and oatmeal to a group of homeless people that normally eat cold cereal. The office not only served the meals, but provided all food, condiments and eating materials.

“We’re looking to prove that Wall Street cares not just with our monetary donations, but also with our time. We’re looking to be the most philanthropic company in Glendale,” said Branch Manager Erik Flegal.
