It was an enthusiastic crowd from the Crescenta Valley that turned out for the annual Day at the Races at Santa Anita Race Track on Sunday afternoon. The fundraiser, which benefitted the Montrose-Verdugo City and Crescenta Valley chambers of commerce and the CV Sheriff’s Support Group, provided ticketholders with seating in the exclusive Top o’ the Stretch area that is excellent for viewing the ponies as they made their way around the track. Tickets included a hot lunch provided by Schreiner’s Fine Sausages and barbecued to perfection by Capt. Bill Song of the CV Sheriff’s Station. Desserts were provided by the chambers and there were also a silent auction and 50/50 drawing. “Expert” handicapping was available by Rick Dinger.
“It was a fabulous event, well-attended that raised money for three wonderful organizations,” said Support Group President Linda Taix-Paccone. “It was a beautiful day and Capt. Bill Song brought it home with his barbecuing skills. And what a great silent auction and, of course, a lot of betting fun!”
Though no fortunes were made during the afternoon (hopefully none were lost either), it was evident that all who came had a good time.
